For impacted ‘ohana and businesses
If you have been impacted by this storm, please know that you are not alone.
We highly encourage you to start a fundaiser, like a GoFundMe, and share with as many people as possible. If you need help reaching more people, you can also submit your fundraiser to the Hawaii Mutual Aid Network to be added to their online hub. This online hub is a virtual space/spreadsheet where affected folks’ fundraisers are housed in a central area for donors to find. This is a great resource if your personal reach is limited and you need help quickly. Other options (like government assistance) take time. Direct mutual aid gets you financial help more immediately.
Please know that all fundraisers added to this hub are verified and vetted by community organizers and will not be posted until this process is complete. GoFundMe is the preferred platform and verification is quickest this way. You may also use Venmo, CashApp, PayPal, Zelle, etc… but this may limit your reach and runs the risk of getting shut down by the apps themselves. (An influx of deposits can trigger this in Venmo and other apps.)

How to start a GoFundMe page
If you have never started an online fundraiser before, GoFundMe is a reliable and simple platform. Thiese short videos explain how to do this and provide a little more information about what GoFundMe actually is.
The Hawaii Mutual Aid Network suggests this platform because they can more easily vet fundraisers shared to their networks using GoFundMe. This is based on past experience and developed partnerships.
